BJD lodges FIR against social media influencer

Bhubaneswar/Kalinga Vikas: Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the principal Opposition party in Odisha, has lodged a police complaint against a social media influencer for allegedly posting abusive and derogatory content against party president and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik. The regional party lodged an FIR against social media influencer Preeti Prakash Nayak at Capital Police Station in Bhubaneswar. As per the complaint, Nayak allegedly posted AI-generated deepfake videos targeting Patnaik, a five-time former Chief Minister, in his Instagram account ‘Social Talk’. The social media influencer also shared derogatory contents against Patnaik and his former aide VK Pandian in his Instagram account, alleged BJD. The party also claimed that Nayak had earlier faced legal action in a defamation case in 2023. The Opposition party has urged the police to initiate action against the Nayak while citing the arrest of a man on charges of circulating deepfake videos and abusive content against Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. “A person has already been arrested for creating and circulating a deepfake video of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on social media. Since the law is equal for everyone, the police should register a case against Nayak and take appropriate action for posting abusive content against the Leader of Opposition,” said the BJD.
