 Milestone at KIMS: Cancer Patient Successfully Treated with Advanced Electron Beam Therapy at Cancer Centre : Ommtv Kalinga Vikas

Bhubaneswar: In a major achievement for cancer care in Odisha, the Radiation Oncology Department at KIMS Cancer Centre has successfully treated a patient using Electron Beam Therapy (EBT), an advanced form of radiation treatment designed to precisely target cancer on or near the skin.The patient, from central Odisha, was battling Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, a type of cancer that mainly affects the skin and causes multiple painful, oozing growths all over the body. Before coming to KIMS, the patient had already undergone surgery to remove some of these growths and had received several rounds of chemotherapy.When the patient arrived at KIMS Cancer Centre with multiple nodular lesions causing pain and fluid discharge, the team, led by Dr. Sthiti Das, Senior Consultant, planned Electron Beam Therapy for the affected areas. This approach uses a focused beam of high-energy electrons to destroy cancer cells on the skin with minimal impact on surrounding healthy tissue.Over a course of 3.5 weeks of consistent treatment, the Radiation Oncology team successfully delivered the therapy, leading to the patient’s full recovery.The treatment was carried out under the expert guidance of Dr. Sthiti Das with strong support from the entire team, which included Dr. Manika Verma, Junior Consultant; Mr. Subhasish Tripathy, Clinical Assistant; Mr. Ashish Masanta; Mrs. Abanti Bhuyan, Senior Medical Physicist and Radiation Safety Officer; Mr. Asit Panigrahy, Junior Medical Physicist; Mrs. Jesmin Ahmed, Senior Radiation Therapy Technologist; Mr. Krishna Prasad Shee; Miss Diptimanjari Sha; Mr. Sauhardya; Mr. Saurav; Mr. Kishore K. Biswal; and Mr. Vishal, all Radiation Therapy Technologists, along with other dedicated staff members of the Radiation Oncology Department.EBT is a type of radiation therapy that uses high-energy electrons to target and destroy cancer cells. It is particularly useful for close-to-skin surface cancers such as skin cancer, breast cancer, HNC (Head and Neck Cancer), and cutaneous lymphoma. EBT’s precision and flexibility allow for fewer side effects and improved patient outcomes, making it a crucial tool in the fight against various cancers.

ଭୁବନେଶ୍ୱର, ୧୨ ।୭: ଓଡ଼ିଶାରେ କର୍କଟ ରୋଗ ଚିକିତ୍ସା ପାଇଁ ଏକ ବଡ଼ ସଫଳତା। ଅତ୍ୟାଧୁନିକ ଇଲେକ୍‍ଟ୍ରନ ବିମ୍ ଥେରାପି (ଇବିଟି) ପଦ୍ଧତିରେ କିମ୍‍ସ ଅନକୋଲୋଜି ବିଭାଗରେ ଜଣେ ରୋଗୀଙ୍କଠାରେ ଏହି ରୋଗର ସଫଳ ଚିକିତ୍ସା କରାଯାଇପାରିଛି। କ୍ୟୁଟେନିଅସ୍ ଟି-ସେଲ ଲିମ୍‍ଫୋମା ନାମକ ଏକ ପ୍ରକାରର କର୍କଟ ରୋଗ ସହ ଜନୈକ ରୋଗୀ ସଂଗ୍ରାମ କରୁଥିଲେ। ଏହା ରୋଗୀଙ୍କ ଚର୍ମରେ କ୍ଷତ ସୃଷ୍ଟି କରି ସମଗ୍ର ଶରୀରର ଏକାଧିକ ସ୍ଥାନରେ କିଛି ସ୍ଥାନରେ ମାଂସ ବୃଦ୍ଧି ହୋଇ ଯନ୍ତ୍ରଣା ହେଉଥିଲା। କିମ୍‍ସକୁ ଆସିବା ପୂର୍ବରୁ ସେ ଏଥିରୁ ରକ୍ଷା ପାଇବା ପାଇଁ ଅସ୍ତ୍ରୋପଚାର କରିସାରିଥିଲେ ଏବଂ  କେମୋଥେରାପି ମଧ୍ୟ କରିଥିଲେ।ରୋଗୀ ଜଣକ କିମ୍‍ସ କ୍ୟାନସର ସେଣ୍ଟରରେ ପହଞ୍ଚିବା ପରେ ଏକାଧିକ ନୋଡୁଲାର କ୍ଷତ ଯୋଗୁଁ ତାଙ୍କର ଯନ୍ତ୍ରଣା ହେବା ସହ ତରଳ ପଦାର୍ଥ ସ୍ରାବ ହେଉଥିଲା। କିମ୍‍ସ ବିଶେଷଜ୍ଞ ଡା ସ୍ଥିତି ଦାସଙ୍କ ନେତୃତ୍ୱରେ ଏକ ଡାକ୍ତରୀ ଦଳ ତାଙ୍କର ପରୀକ୍ଷା କରିଥିଲେ। ଶେଷରେ ଆକ୍ରାନ୍ତ ସ୍ଥାନରେ ଇଲେକ୍‍ଟ୍ରନ ବିମ ଥେରାପି ପଦ୍ଧତିରେ ଚିକିତ୍ସା ପାଇଁ ଯୋଜନା କରିଥିଲେ। ଏହି ପ୍ରକ୍ରିୟାରେ ସାଧାରଣତଃ ଉଚ୍ଚ ଶକ୍ତିଯୁକ୍ତ ଇଲେକ୍‍ଟ୍ରନକୁ ନେଇ ଏକ କେନ୍ଦ୍ରୀଭୂତ ବିମ ଜରିଆରେ ଆଖପାଖ ସୁସ୍ଥ ତନ୍ତୁ ଉପରେ ସର୍ବନିମ୍ନ ପ୍ରଭାବ ସହିତ ଚର୍ମରେ କର୍କଟ କୋଷଗୁଡ଼ିକୁ ନଷ୍ଟ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ବ୍ୟବହାର କରାଯାଏ। ନିରନ୍ତର ୩.୫ ସପ୍ତାହର ପ୍ରୟାସ ପରେ ରେଡିଏସନ୍ ଅଙ୍କୋଲୋଜି ଦଳ ଏହି ଚିକିତ୍ସା କରି ସଫଳତା ପାଇଥିଲେ। ଏବେ ରୋଗୀ ସଂପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ସୁସ୍ଥ ଅଛନ୍ତି ।ଡା ସ୍ଥିତି ଦାସଙ୍କ ନେତୃତ୍ୱରେ ଏହି ଅଭିଯାନରେ ଡା ମାନିକା ବର୍ମା, ଜୁନିଅର କନସଲଟାଣ୍ଟ ଶୁଭାଶିଷ ତ୍ରିପାଠୀ, କ୍ଲିନିକାଲ୍ ଆସିଷ୍ଟାଣ୍ଟ ଆଶିଷ ମସାନ୍ତ; ଅବନ୍ତୀ ଭୂୟାଁ, ବିକିରଣ ସୁରକ୍ଷା ଅଧିକାରୀ ଅସିତ ପାଣିଗ୍ରାହି, ଜେସମିନ୍ ଅହମ୍ମଦ, ବରିଷ୍ଠ ରେଡିଏସନ୍‍ ଥେରାପି ଟେକ୍ନୋଲୋଜିଷ୍ଟ କୃଷ୍ଣ ପ୍ରସାଦ ଶି, ଦିପ୍ତିମଞ୍ଜରୀ ଶା, ସୌହାର୍ଦ୍ୟ, ସୌରଭ, କିଶୋର ବିଶ୍ୱାଳ, ବିଶାଳ ତଥା ବିକିରଣ ଅଙ୍କୋଲୋଜି ବିଭାଗର ଅନ୍ୟ କର୍ମଚାରୀ ପ୍ରମୁଖ ସାମିଲ ଥିଲେ।ସୂଚନାଯୋଗ୍ୟ, ଇବିଟି ହେଉଛି ଏକ ପ୍ରକାରର ବିକିରଣ ଚିକିତ୍ସା ଯାହା କର୍କଟ କୋଷଗୁଡ଼ିକୁ ନଷ୍ଟ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ଉଚ୍ଚ-ଶକ୍ତି ଇଲେକ୍‍ଟ୍ରନ ବ୍ୟବହାର କରାଯାଇଥାଏ। ଏହା ବିଶେଷ ଭାବରେ ଚର୍ମ କର୍କଟ, ସ୍ତନ କର୍କଟ, ଏଚଏନସି (ମଥା ଏବଂ ଗଳା କର୍କଟ) ଏବଂ ଚର୍ମ ଲିମଫୋମା ଭଳି ନିକଟତର ପୃଷ୍ଠ କର୍କଟ ପାଇଁ ଉପଯୋଗୀ। ଇବିଟିର ସଠିକତା ଏବଂ ନମନୀୟତା କମ୍ ପାର୍ଶ୍ୱ ପ୍ରତିକ୍ରିୟା ସହ ରୋଗ ଶୀଘ୍ର ଉପଶମ କରାଇଥାଏ। ଏହାକୁ ବିଭିନ୍ନ କର୍କଟ ରୋଗ ବିରୋଧରେ ଲଢ଼ିବାରେ ଏକ ଗୁରୁତ୍ୱପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ଉପକରଣ ବୋଲି କୁହାଯାଉଛି।
