The Department of Community Medicine completed its two-week-long marathon of events to commemorate World Health Day with CME on 20th April 2024.
The Chief Patrons were Prof. Dr Achyuta Samanta (Founder, KIIT & KISS); Prof.(Dr.) C.B.K. Mohanty(Pro-Vice-Chancellor, School of Medicine, KIMS ) and Brig. Prof. (Dr.) A.P. Mohanty(Dean and Principal, KIMS), who offered unconditional support and encouragement for all events.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Brig. Prof. (Dr.) A.P Mohanty (Dean and Principal, KIMS), esteemed special guests Dr. R.N. Samanta (Senior Advisor, KIMS) & Prof. (Dr.) Ram Chandra Das, AVM (Medical Superintendent, KIMS) & Organizing Chairperson Prof. (Dr.) Sonali Kar (Professor & HOD, Department of Community Medicine, KIMS).
The theme for this year was MY HEALTH, MY RIGHT, with speakers from across the country sharing their thoughts on different topics. The keynote speaker was Prof. Dr. K. Madan Gopal (Advisor-Public Health Administration, NHSRC-MOHFW, GOI) from Delhi, who spoke about “Driving Innovations and Building Sustainable Health Systems for Better Health Rights in India-An Experience Sharing Session”.
The session was chaired by Brig. Prof (Dr) Ambika Prasad Mohanty along with Prof.(Dr) Krishna Kar(Professor &HOD, Department Of Community Medicine,SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack. The second distinguished speaker Prof.(Dr.)
Pankaj Bhardwaj, (Professor Department of Community and Family Medicine, AIIMS, Jodhpur) threw insights and his experiences on “Screening elderly population in India: Raising Voices for Rights of elderly: an experience from Thar” and the Session was chaired by Prof.(Dr.) Shridhar Kadam (Director, Indian Institute of Public Health Bhubaneswar) & Prof(.Dr.)D Shobha Malini (Professor & HOD, Department of Community Medicine, JKMC, Jajpur.
The Third Speaker for the day was Prof. (Dr.)Rajib DasGupta (JNU, New Delhi ) delved into the subject “My health my right' there's more to it than meets the eye: glance through social justice and social determinants lens” which was an online presentation guided by the KIMS IT Cell.
There were more than 150 registrations and participants which included Faculties & Post-Graduates from all Medical colleges and Public Health Institutions of Odisha in the CME. They actively took part in the discussion, making it interactive and very engaging. The CME was hosted by Dr. Priyanka Mohanty (PG, Department of Community Medicine, KIMS) & all the post-graduates served as the backbone of the CME. Special Credits to Dr. Surya Prakash Routray and Dr Dibyajyoti Mandal (PG Department of Community Medicine, KIMS) who looked after all Logistics for the event.
A deliberative Panel Discussion was the highlight of the show, where rewound Panelists like Prof (Dr.) Amrit Pattajoshi (Professor & Hod, Department of Psychiatry, Hitech Medical College & Hospital, Bhubaneswar, Hmch, Bhubaneswar); Prof. (Dr.) Sonali Kar (Professor & Hod Dept of Community Medicine, KIMS ); Prof.(Dr.) Satyajit Pattnaik, (Professor, Dept of Community Medicine, IMS &SUM Hospital, Phulnakhra); Prof.(Dr.) Shridhar Kadam (Director, Indian Institute of Public Health, Bhubaneswar ); Prof.(Dr.) Bhuputra Panda, Professor & Director, KIIT School of Public Health & last but not least Dr. Abhisek Mishra (Assistant Professor, Dept of Community Medicine, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar) gave their opinions on the topic: Roles of State Medical Colleges and Public Health Institutions to foster right to health among vulnerable groups”.
The Panel discussion was moderated by Prof. (Dr.) Nirmal. k. Mahakud (Professor, Department Of Pediatrics, KIMS), Prof.(Dr.)Smruti Ranjan Nayak (Professor, Dept of Community Medicine, KIMS ) & Dr. Ipsita Debata (Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine KIMS ) where all the esteemed faculties, pioneers and postgraduates interacted with series of questions. Speakers & Panelists were felicitated after the session.
Post-lunch sessions offered a Nukkad Act performed by MBBS students that reinforced the sensitivity of the theme followed by the Prize Distribution ceremony where all the winners from different events that took place on different days on the eve of World Health Day 2024 like IAPSM QUIZ, Face painting, Debate, Photography & Reelathon were awarded cash prizes, certificates & trophies.
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Krishna Mishra (Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, KIMS). The Department is deeply obliged to Mr. K.P. Dwivedy (Director, Campus Relations, KIMS) & Dr. Nandita Sen (Director, Student Affairs, KIMS) as well the Group Director Mr. Dilip Panda, The development Officer Mr. Dilip Jena and the supporting staff of Auditorium and Lecture theatres as well as to KIIT Hospitality to add delightful recipes all through the events
The CME served as an informative and memorable event for all the audience and organizers alike and upholds the commitment of staff to serve the Institution as well as sync with its Medical Fraternity with passion.
