KIIT Law School (KLS) marked a significant milestone with the successful inauguration of the Centre for Environmental Studies and Sustainability (CESS) on April 9, 2026. The occasion was commemorated through a panel discussion titled “Decoding India’s Green Framework: EPA, Pollution Boards, Forest and Wildlife Protection Laws.”

The programme commenced with a formal welcome address, followed by the remarks of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor. The unveiling of the CESS logo set the tone for the event, accompanied by opening remarks from Prof. N.L. Mitra and Prof. Manoj Sadual, who emphasized the growing importance of environmental governance in contemporary legal discourse.

The panel featured distinguished experts, including Shri Bhagbat Prasad Pattajoshi (Legal Advisor, SPCB), Shri Vishwanath Neelannavar, IFS, and Shri Lingaraj Otta, IFS (Retd.). The speakers delivered insightful deliberations on India’s environmental regulatory framework, focusing on key legislations such as the Environment Protection Act, the role of Pollution Control Boards, and laws governing forest and wildlife protection. The sessions were highly engaging, with interactive question-and-answer segments enabling meaningful dialogue between the panelists and participants.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by a group photograph session and lunch. Spanning approximately two and a half hours, the programme was executed seamlessly and witnessed enthusiastic participation. The Centre for Environmental Studies and Sustainability (CESS) is envisioned as a multidisciplinary platform dedicated to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It aims to promote research, policy advocacy, biodiversity conservation, climate action, and community engagement through grassroots initiatives.

The successful organization of the event under the guidance of Faculty Coordinator Dr. Tulishree Pradhan and Student Convenor Mr. Arnav Nayak reflects KLS’s continued commitment to fostering environmental awareness and responsible legal scholarship.
