Dr Achyuta Samanta Conferred Honorary Citizenship by Romanian Town, Receives Multiple International Honours
Bhubaneswar: Eminent educationist, social reformer and Founder of KIIT, KISS and KIMS, Dr. Achyuta Samanta was conferred Honorary Citizenship of Milișăuți, Romania, on 21st September 2026 in recognition of his lifelong contributions to education, social development and humanitarian service. He was also presented with the Key to the City of Bârladby by the Municipality of Bârlad, becoming the first Odia to receive these civic honours from two Romanian municipalities.
Honorary citizenship is the highest recognition a town in Romania can give. The Key to the City is an old European tradition from the days when towns had gates and handed their key only to a person they trusted completely. Dr. Samanta visited Bârlad along with Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, Ambassador of India to Romania.
“I was deeply touched by the warm welcome I received in Milișăuți, Romania. The love and warmth I received in both cities will always remain close to my heart,” Dr. Samanta said, expressing his deepest gratitude to the people of Romania.
Dr. Samanta was also named ‘Leader of the Year’ at the CEEMAN Champions Awards 2026 in recognition of his contributions to education, social development, humanitarian service and institution building. The award was presented at the 34th CEEMAN Annual Conference held in Romania. A representative of Dr. Samanta received the award in his absence. CEEMAN, the International Association for Management Development in Dynamic Societies, is based in Bled, Slovenia, and has around 180 members from about 50 countries.
Dr. Achyuta Samanta received FIDE’s ‘Education Philanthropic Award’ at the Summit on Chess in Education in Uzbekistan on 24th September 2026, during the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad and Congress. A representative accepted the award on his behalf.
The award was presented by Viswanathan Anand, Acting President of FIDE, and Ms. Dana Reizniece, Deputy Chair of the FIDE Management Board, in the presence of representatives from 120 countries. Dr. Samanta from India is among the recipients, who include heads of various countries. He was recognised for his lifelong contributions to sports and education. On the occasion, FIDE, KIIT and KISS signed an MoU to expand their Chess in Education initiatives.
In other developments, Dr. Samanta was conferred four honours - ‘Mother Teresa Award’; ‘Professor Honoris Causa’ from AAB University College, Pristina; ‘Recognition from the City of Peja’; and ‘Medal of the President of the World Congress of Poets’ during the 45th World Congress of Poets, being held in Pristina, Republic of Kosovo.

ଭୁବନେଶ୍ୱର, ୨୫ ।୯: ଶିକ୍ଷାବିତ୍, ସମାଜସେବୀ ତଥା କିଟ୍, କିସ୍ ଓ କିମସ ପ୍ରତିଷ୍ଠାତା ଅଚ୍ୟୁତ ସାମନ୍ତଙ୍କୁ ଏକାଧିକ ଅନ୍ତର୍ଜାତୀୟ ସମ୍ମାନ ପ୍ରଦାନ କରାଯାଇଛି। ଶ୍ରୀ ସାମନ୍ତଙ୍କ ରୋମାନିଆ ଗସ୍ତ ଅବସରରେ ତାଙ୍କୁ ମିଲିଶାଉଟି ସହରର ସମ୍ମାନସୂଚକ ନାଗରିକତା, ବାର୍ଲାଡ୍ ସହରର ‘କି ଟୁ ଦି ସିଟି’ ଏବଂ ସିମାନ ଚାମ୍ପିୟନସ ଆୱାର୍ଡସ ୨୦୨୬ରେ ‘ଲିଡର ଅଫ୍ ଦି ଇୟର’ ସମ୍ମାନ ପ୍ରଦାନ କରାଯାଇଛି। ଶିକ୍ଷା ଓ ସମାଜସେବା କ୍ଷେତ୍ରରେ ଜୀବନ ବ୍ୟାପୀ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ପାଇଁ ଶ୍ରୀ ସମନ୍ତଙ୍କୁ ଏହି ସମ୍ମାନ ପ୍ରଦାନ କରାଯାଇଛି। ରୋମାନିଆ ଭଳି ଦେଶର ଦୁଇଟି ସହରରୁ ଏଭଳି ବିରଳ ସମ୍ମାନ ପାଇବାରେ ଅଚ୍ୟୁତ ସାମନ୍ତ ହେଉଛନ୍ତି ପ୍ରଥମ ଓଡ଼ିଆ । ଉଭୟ ସହରର ମେୟରମାନଙ୍କଠାରୁ ଶ୍ରୀ ସାମନ୍ତ ଏହି ସମ୍ମାନ ଗ୍ରହଣ କରିଥିବା ବେଳେ ସମ୍ମାନ ପ୍ରଦାନ ସମାରୋହରେ ସହରର କାଉନସିଲ୍ ସଦସ୍ୟ ତଥା ବହୁ ବିଶିଷ୍ଟ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିବିଶେଷ ଓ ରୋମାନିଆରେ ଅବସ୍ଥାପିତ ଭାରତୀୟ ରାଷ୍ଟ୍ରଦୂତ ଡ. ମନୋଜ କୁମାର ମହାପାତ୍ର ଉପସ୍ଥିତ ଥିଲେ। ସୂଚନାଯୋଗ୍ୟ, ସମ୍ମାନସୂଚକ ନାଗରିକତା ହେଉଛି ରୋମାନିଆର ଏକ ସହର ଦ୍ୱାରା ଦିଆଯାଉଥିବା ସର୍ବୋଚ୍ଚ ସମ୍ମାନ। ସହର ପରିଷଦର ସଦସ୍ୟମାନେ ମତଦାନ କରି ବିଶ୍ୱର ଯେକୌଣସି ସ୍ଥାନର ଏପରି ଜଣେ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଙ୍କ ଜୀବନ ଓ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟକୁ ପ୍ରଶଂସା ଏହି ସମ୍ମାନ ପ୍ରଦାନ କରିଥାନ୍ତି। ଏହି ସମ୍ମାନ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଙ୍କୁ ପାସପୋର୍ଟ କିମ୍ବା ଭୋଟ୍ ଦାନ ଅଧିକାର ଦେଉ ନଥିଲେ ମଧ୍ୟ ତା’ଠାରୁ ଅଧିକ ସମ୍ମାନ ପ୍ରଦାନ କରେ।
ସେହିପରି ‘କି ଟୁ ଦି ସିଟି’ ହେଉଛି ୟୁରୋପର ଏକ ପ୍ରାଚୀନ ପରମ୍ପରା। କୁହଯାଏ, ଯେତେବେଳେ ସହରଗୁଡ଼ିକରେ ପ୍ରବେଶ ପାଇଁ ଫାଟକ ରହୁଥିଲା, ସେତେବେଳେ ସେମାନେ ନିଜ ସହରର ଚାବି କେବଳ ଜଣେ ବିଶ୍ୱାସଯୋଗ୍ୟ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଙ୍କୁ ହିଁ ଦେଉଥିଲେ। ଶ୍ରୀ ସାମନ୍ତଙ୍କ ପ୍ରତି ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଭଲପାଇବା ଓ ବିଶ୍ୱାସ ପାଇଁ ଏହି ସମ୍ମାନ ପ୍ରଦାନ କରାଯାଇଛି । ଉଭୟ ବାର୍ଲାଡ ଓ ମିଲିସାଉଟି ସହର ଶ୍ରୀ ସାମନ୍ତଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ସେହି ମୂଲ୍ୟବୋଧକୁ ହିଁ ଦେଖି ଏହି ସମ୍ମାନ ପ୍ରଦାନ କରିଛନ୍ତି।
ଶ୍ରୀ ସାମନ୍ତଙ୍କୁ ସିମାନ ‘ଲିଡର ଅଫ୍ ଦି ଇୟର’ ୨୦୨୬ ସମ୍ମାନରେ ମଧ୍ୟ ସମ୍ମାନିତ କରାଯାଇଛି। ଶିକ୍ଷା, ସାମାଜିକ ବିକାଶ, ମାନବୀୟ ସେବା ଓ ପ୍ରତିଷ୍ଠାନ ଗଠନ କ୍ଷେତ୍ରରେ ତାଙ୍କ ଅବଦାନକୁ ଏହି ସମ୍ମାନ ସ୍ୱୀକୃତି ଦେଇଛି । ବୁଖାରେଷ୍ଟରେ ଅନୁଷ୍ଠିତ ୩୪ତମ ସିମାନ ବାର୍ଷିକ ସମ୍ମିଳନୀରେ ଏହି ପୁରସ୍କାର ପ୍ରଦାନ କରାଯାଇଥିଲା। ଶ୍ରୀ ସାମନ୍ତଙ୍କ ଅନୁପସ୍ଥିତିରେ ତାଙ୍କ ପ୍ରତିନିଧି ପୁରସ୍କାର ଗ୍ରହଣ କରିଥିଲେ।
ରୋମାନିଆବାସୀଙ୍କ ପ୍ରତି ଗଭୀର କୃତଜ୍ଞତା ଜଣାଇ ଶ୍ରୀ ସାମନ୍ତ କହିଲେ, “ରୋମାନିଆର ମିଲିଶାଉଟିରେ ଯେଉଁ ଆତ୍ମୀୟତା ଓ ଉଷ୍ମତାର ସହ ସ୍ୱାଗତ କରାଯାଇଥିଲା, ତାହା ମୋତେ ଗଭୀର ଭାବେ ଭାବବିହ୍ୱଳ କରିଛି । ଉଭୟ ସହରର ଲୋକଙ୍କଠାରୁ ମିଳିଥିବା ଭଲପାଇବା ଓ ଆତ୍ମୀୟତା ସବୁବେଳେ ମୋ ହୃଦୟର ଅତି ନିକଟରେ ରହିବ।”
ସେହିପରି ଶିକ୍ଷା, ସାମାଜିକ ବିକାଶ, ମାନବସେବା ଓ ଅନୁଷ୍ଠାନ ଗଠନ କ୍ଷେତ୍ରରେ ଜୀବନବ୍ୟାପୀ ଅବଦାନ ପାଇଁ ଶ୍ରୀ ସାମନ୍ତଙ୍କୁ ସିମାନ ‘ଲିଡର ଅଫ୍ ଦି ଇୟର’ ସମ୍ମାନ ପ୍ରଦାନ କରାଯାଇଛି। ପ୍ରତିବର୍ଷ ସିମାନ ଚାମ୍ପିଅନସିପ ସମ୍ମାନ ପକ୍ଷରୁ ସିମାନ ‘ଲିଡର ଅଫ୍ ଦି ଇୟର’ ସମ୍ମାନ ପ୍ରଦାନ କରାଯାଇଥାଏ। ଚଳିତବର୍ଷ ଏହି ସମ୍ମାନ ଦେବାକୁ ଶ୍ରୀ ସାମନ୍ତଙ୍କୁ ସିମାନ ପକ୍ଷରୁ ମନୋନୀତ କରାଯାଇଥିଲା। ରୋମାନିଆରରେ ୩୪ତମ ସିମାନ ବାର୍ଷିକ ସମ୍ମିଳନୀରେ ଏହି ପୁରସ୍କାର ପ୍ରଦାନ କରାଯାଇଥିଲା। ଶ୍ରୀ ସାମନ୍ତଙ୍କ ଅନୁପସ୍ଥିତିରେ ତାଙ୍କ ପ୍ରତିନିଧି ଏହି ସମ୍ମାନ ଗ୍ରହଣ କରିଥିଲେ। ସିମାନ ହେଉଛି ୧୯୯୩ରେ ସ୍ଲୋଭାନିଆରେ ପ୍ରତିଷ୍ଠିତ ମ୍ୟାନେଜମେଣ୍ଟ ଡେଭେଲପମେଣ୍ଟ ଇନ ଡାଇନାମିକ ସୋସାଇଟିର ଏହି ଆନ୍ତର୍ଜାତିକ ସଂଗଠନ ବିଶ୍ୱର ପ୍ରାୟ ୫୦ଟି ଦେଶର ପ୍ରାୟ ୧୮୦ଟି ସଦସ୍ୟ ଅନୁଷ୍ଠାନ ଏହା ସହ ଜଡ଼ିତ ଅଛନ୍ତି।
ଆନ୍ତର୍ଜାତିକ ଚେସ୍ ମହାସଂଘ ଫିଡେ ପକ୍ଷରୁ ଅଚ୍ୟୁତ ସାମନ୍ତଙ୍କୁ ‘ଏଡୁକେସନ୍ ଫିଲାନ୍ଥ୍ରପିକ୍ ଆୱାର୍ଡ’ରେ ସମ୍ମାନିତ କରାଯାଇଛି। ଆଜି ଉଜବେକିସ୍ତାନରେ ୪୬ତମ ଫିଡେ ଚେସ୍ ଅଲିଂପିଆଡ୍ ଓ କଂଗ୍ରେସ୍ ଅବସରରେ ଆୟୋଜିତ ଫିଡେର ‘ଚେସ୍ ଇନ୍ ଏଡୁକେସନ୍’ ସମିଟ୍ ଅବସରରେ ତାଙ୍କୁ ଏହି ସମ୍ମାନ ପ୍ରଦାନ କରାଯାଇଛି। ଫିଡେର କାର୍ଯ୍ୟକାରୀ ଅଧ୍ୟକ୍ଷ ବିଶ୍ୱନାଥନ ଆନନ୍ଦ ଏବଂ ଫିଡେ ମ୍ୟାନେଜମେଣ୍ଟ ବୋର୍ଡର ଉପାଧ୍ୟକ୍ଷା ଡାନା ରେଜନିଏସ୍କେ ଶ୍ରୀ ସାମନ୍ତଙ୍କୁ ଏହି ସମ୍ମାନ ପ୍ରଦାନ କରିଥିଲେ । ଶ୍ରୀ ସାମନ୍ତଙ୍କ ଅନୁପସ୍ଥିତିରେ ତାଙ୍କ ପ୍ରତିନିଧି ଏହି ପୁରସ୍କାର ଗ୍ରହଣ କରିଥିଲେ। ଏହି ଅବସରରେ ୧୨୦ଟି ଦେଶର ପ୍ରତିନିଧି ଉପସ୍ଥିତ ଥିଲେ। ବିଭିନ୍ନ ଦେଶର ରାଷ୍ଟ୍ରମୁଖ୍ୟ ଓ ବିଶିଷ୍ଟ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିବିଶେଷଙ୍କୁ ମଧ୍ୟ ଏହି ସମ୍ମାନ ପ୍ରଦାନ କରାଯାଇଥିଲା । କ୍ରୀଡ଼ା ଓ ଶିକ୍ଷା କ୍ଷେତ୍ରରେ ଶ୍ରୀ ସାମନ୍ତଙ୍କ ଜୀବନବ୍ୟାପୀ ସେବା ପାଇଁ ତାଙ୍କୁ ଏହି ସମ୍ମାନ ପ୍ରଦାନ କରାଯାଇଛି । ଏହି ଅବସରରେ ଶିକ୍ଷା କ୍ଷେତ୍ରରେ ଚେସ୍ର ପ୍ରସାର ଓ ‘ଚେସ୍ ଇନ୍ ଏଡୁକେସନ୍’ ପଦକ୍ଷେପକୁ ବ୍ୟାପକ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ଫିଡେ, କିଟ୍ ଓ କିସ୍ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ଏକ ବୁଝାମଣାପତ୍ର ସ୍ୱାକ୍ଷରିତ ହୋଇଛି।
କୋସୋଭୋ ଗଣରାଜ୍ୟର ପ୍ରିଷ୍ଟିନାଠାରେ ଅନୁଷ୍ଠିତ ୪୫ତମ ବିଶ୍ୱ କବି ସମ୍ମିଳନୀ ଅବସରରେ ଶ୍ରୀ ସାମନ୍ତଙ୍କୁ ‘ମଦର ଟେରେସା ଆୱାର୍ଡ’, ପ୍ରିଷ୍ଟିନା ଏଏବି ୟୁନିଭର୍ସିଟି କଲେଜ ପକ୍ଷରୁ ‘ପ୍ରଫେସର ଅନୋରିସ୍ କଜା’, ‘ସିଟି ଅଫ୍ ପେଜା’ ପକ୍ଷରୁ ସ୍ୱୀକୃତି ସମ୍ମାନ ଏବଂ ବିଶ୍ୱ କବି ସମ୍ମିଳନୀର ସଭାପତିଙ୍କ ପଦକ ଭଳି ଚାରିଟି ସମ୍ମାନରେ ସମ୍ମାନିତ କରାଯାଇଥିଲା।
