KIMS Conducts Landmark Bentall Procedure On Visually-Challenged Patient Suffering from Life-Threatening Heart Condition : Ommtv

Bhubaneswar: In a development that demonstrates advanced care and success in handling critical cases, doctors at the Department of Cardio-Thoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) at KIMS, led by Dr Amit Kumar Agarwal, successfully performed a highly complex Bentall surgery on a 64-year-old visually challenged patient, suffering from Acute Aortic Dissection. This marks the first time this procedure has been successfully conducted for such conditions at KIMS, setting a new benchmark in advanced cardiac care.The patient, suffering from a known case of Marfans syndrome—a rare genetic disorder that weakens the body’s connective tissues—was rushed to KIMS with severe chest and back pain recently. He was evaluated by a team of cardiologists comprising Dr Subhasis Mishra (Prof and HOD) and Dr Pradeep (DM). A CT angiography revealed Type A Acute Aortic Dissection, a life-threatening condition that progresses at a mortality rate of 1 per cent per hour, necessitating immediate surgical intervention.The KIMS cardiac surgery team was led by Dr Amit Agarwal, (consultant CTVS) along with Dr CKR Mohapatra (Associate Prof & HOD CTVS); Anaesthetist Dr Ashok Badamali and Dr Gyana Mishra. Recognising the urgency, the emergency Bentall surgery was performed, a technically demanding procedure where the entire ascending aorta and coronary arteries are replaced. This procedure, technically is very complex and difficult with high death rates. It is typically performed only in advanced cardiac centres worldwide.Despite the challenges, the surgery was successfully executed, offering a ray of hope to patients suffering from such critical cardiovascular conditions.Expressing gratitude post-surgery, the patient’s family hailed the expertise and dedication of the KIMS medical team. The success of this intricate procedure reinforces KIMS’ position as a leading centre for advanced cardiac interventions in eastern India.“My father was admitted to KIMS and diagnosed with massive aortic dissection. It was really a nightmare for me and my family. However, Dr. Amit explained everything and suggested for Bentall Surgery. Dr. Amit and Dr. Chandan along with their team did the Surgery and proved that miracles do happen. It was the best New Year gift I've ever received. It's the rebirth of my father”, said Sailen Mishra, the patient’s son.

କିମ୍‍ସର ହୃଦ୍‍ ଅସ୍ତ୍ରୋପଚାର ବିଭାଗର ଡା ଅମିତ ଅଗ୍ରୱାଲ ଏବଂ ଡା ସିକେଆର ମହାପାତ୍ର, ନିଶ୍ଚେତକ ବିଶେଷଜ୍ଞ ଡା ଅଶୋକ ବଡମାଳି ଏବଂ ଡା ଜ୍ଞାନ ମିଶ୍ରଙ୍କ ନେତୃତ୍ୱରେ ତାଙ୍କର ଜରୁରୀକାଳୀନ ବେଣ୍ଟାଲ ପ୍ରକ୍ରିୟାରେ ଅସ୍ତ୍ରୋପଚାର କରାଯାଇଥିଲା ।
